I was addressing a challenging subject from the household code section: how do we move forward from the pages of scripture toward the light of Jesus Christ? What does it look like to really engage the text in our lives?

Appreciating Paul's original audience and their culture - and Paul's background as a Jewish scholar - leads us to understand that Paul doesn't present household codes as a prescriptive "user manual" for Christians, but as an invitation to follow the trajectory of righteousness and life in Jesus Christ.
